By the end of 2000, the word was spreading that the 172 was more than just a hatchback in sports trim. It was in fact, one of the most exciting of all hot hatches, with a power and handling that made performace almost brutal. By Spring 2001, the end was near for this pocket rocket. A new look Clio was on the horizon and production was halted whilst interest in this remarkable little car was at its peak. At then end of the run, Renault built 172 limited edition cars, labelled the Clio RENAULTsport 172 Exclusive. The Exclusive was available in 'Scarab Green' only, and came loaded with every option available to the standard car. In addtion, the Exclusive was given leather seats, new alloy wheels and a number from 1 to 172 (mine is 136).
