Recovering Forest, Kootenay National Park

Previous Photo : Photo Index : Next Photo

The area at the Continental Divide (and border with Banff National Park) was heavily damaged by forest fire in 1968. A little over 30 years later and the forest is well on the way to recovery. The mountainsides have a bristly appearance where white burnt trunks poke above the new growth. This photo is taken along the interesting Stanley Glacier Trail, my personal favourite hike in the Canadian Rockies.
